Situated in the southeast corner of the Iberian Peninsular, Murcia is located 47 km from the small international airport at San Javier. At present there are a limited number of international flights landing at San Javier, with basic connections on arrival. The only choice for visitors is taking a taxi or hire car from the airport direct to Murcia, or a taxi to San Javier’s bus or train stations from which direct routes to Murcia are available.

• The large international airport just outside Alicante, El Altet, is 68 km northeast of Murcia and is the main point of arrival for the vast majority of visitors to the region.

• Convenient connections are available to Murcia via bus or train from stations in the centre of Alicante, which is linked to the airport by the C-6 bus service or a taxi.

• El Carmen, the main train station in Murcia links the regional capital to major Spanish cities and large towns in the region including Valencia, Barcelona and Madrid with various daily connections offered by RENFE.

• The bus is always the cheapest transport option and various services linking the city with a number of destinations across the region are available from Murcia Bus Station.

• The regional capital enjoys strong links with the surrounding areas and Spain as a whole through a comprehensive road network, which makes the car one of the most convenient ways to enjoy the variety that is on offer in and around the Province of Murcia.

• The nearby coast of Costa Calida and the historic town of Cartegena are connected to Murcia via the N-332. A direct route to the major Mediterranean cities of Alicante, Valencia and Barcelona is provided by the A7 heading north from Murcia.

• South and the A7 connects with N-342 for a route to Andalusia and the cities of Granada, Malaga and Seville. The N-301 is the main route for the longer inland journey to the Spanish capital, Madrid.
